ALABARCES, Pablo. Post-popular trans-cultures: The return of popular cultures in the Latin-American social sciences. Cultura representaciones soc [online]. 2012, vol.7, n.13, pp.7-39. ISSN 2007-8110.

This text talks about the return of the suppressed - the expelled, the forced, the missing - or silenced. The study of popular Latin-American cultures was the object of this operation of displacement, contemporary to the neoliberal decade that was consolidated, thanks to the legitimacy of the democratic processes, the pauperization, fragmentation and social exclusion that ended the 20th century in our continent. A sort of corollary of this movement was the exclusion of popular cultures of the research agendas; they were dissolved in categories that claimed to be more adequate and suitable for the analysis in times of transformation. Among them those of hybridization, decollation and deterritorialization glorified by the success of the publishing and academic market. Nevertheless, twenty years later, we are facing a process of reopening of these agendas and the reappearance of some categories and displaced subjects; for example the new political success of the national-popular narratives, in spite of the critique that they deserve, talk more of continuities and, reappearances, instead of dissolutions and closings.

Palavras-chave : popular cultures; Latin America; ideology; music; cinema.
