The propose is to demonstrate how the availability of water for women is determined by multiple factors: the exercise of male power, gender inequality, creation and compliance standards local The data we provide is the product of a field research in Villahermosa Yaluma of the Comiteca Plateau (Meseta) of Chiapas, where participant observation and interviewing were carried out. The data show that the source of water are reduced either because they have dried or contaminated, is added as a factor of availability of water, deepening social and gender inequality. Similarly, the case shows that living in the territory of a basin, near a river does not guarantee access to sufficient water and of quality suitable for human consumption. Therefore, and as will be shown, compliance with the human right to water depends on water management, the development of regions and equitable gender relations.
