BOBADILLA ENCINAS, Gerardo Francisco e AVECHUCO CABRERA, Daniel. Literature, Image and Identity in Post-independence and the Mexican Post-revolution. Iztapalapa. Rev. cienc. soc. humanid. Influenced by the European traveling painters (1821-1840) and the rise by lithographic practice around 1840, the literature contributed in defining a national identity through the artículos de costumbres in Mexico between 1840 and 1870 approximately, published first in the main newspapers of the time, later as compendiums or collections. These articles were configured as ethical and aesthetic statements with double textuality, literary and plastic, with which they created archetypal images about Mexico and Mexican, in a process similar to that developed by photography during the Mexican post-revolution.
The present article seeks to reconstruct that artistic process from an integrative, semiotic perspective, which, taking into account the compositional and stylistic particularities of the concrete texts, at the same time explain those characteristics in their dynamic and dialectical correlation with the other elements of the literary series and cultural.
