JUAREZ PAULIN, Arli; TUNON PABLOS, Esperanza; WINTON, Ailsa e ZAPATA MARTELO, Emma. Socio-spatial gender relations and women’s participation in the Maize Merged with Fruit Trees Project in Chiapas. Rev. interdiscip. estud. género Col. Méx. [online]. 2018, vol.4, e208. Epub 18-Jun-2018. ISSN 2395-9185. https://doi.org/10.24201/eg.v4i0.208.
This article analyzes from a spatial and gender perspective the experience of the “Maize Merged with Fruit Trees” project in Chiapas, Mexico. Its objective is to make visible the ways in which gender relations materialize in space and are translated into opportunities and/or socio-territorial boundaries for women’s participation in production support programs. A qualitative methodology was used that included: participant observation, interviews, participatory workshops and participatory mapping. The results show the duality of processes that women face as a consequence of their incorporation into the project, as while they question and renegotiate their gendered situations, they also face subordination associated with the superficial role for women reproduced within the same organizational dynamic.
