SAN MARTIN-MATAMOROS, Ana K. et al. Atypical reversible posterior encephalopathy due to eclampsia. Case presentation. Cir. cir. [online]. 2020, vol.88, suppl.1, pp.87-90. Epub 08-Fev-2022. ISSN 2444-054X. https://doi.org/10.24875/ciru.20001601.
Background:
Reversible posterior encephalopathy is related to hypertensive diseases of pregnancy, with a nonspecific clinic. The diagnosis is made by magnetic resonance and electroencephalogram, appropriate treatment prevents complications.
Case report:
15-year-old primigesta with preterm pregnancy, arterial hypertension and tonic-clonic seizures, presents atypical posterior encephalopathy with multiple brain lesions, antihypertensives were administered without improvement of neurological symptoms. The management of this pathology depends on the triggering situation, there is insufficient evidence to support preventive anti-edema measures in patients with risk factors. The delay in timely treatment and atypical presentation favors the progression of neurological sequelae.
