ALMAGRO VAZQUEZ, Francisco. Environmental accounts and analysis of ecological indicators. The case of Mexico. Investig. adm. [online]. 2007, vol.36, n.99, pp.7-17. Epub 06-Maio-2024. ISSN 2448-7678.
The System of Ecological and Economic Accounts of Mexico (SEEAM) has been implemented in Mexico; whose main purpose is to publish ecological indicators. Taking as a base the referred bibliography there has been an elaboration of statistical series by analyzing the evolution of the main environmental indicators. In a brief synthesis of the results obtained, it is possible to denote the following results: a) when comparing the traditional gross domestic product with the ecological gross domestic product, the first one exceeds the second in a ten percent basis, due to the total costs by depletion and degradation of the environment (CDDE) which is the difference between both indicators; b) all the aspects that the SEEAM takes into account (petroleum, forest and water) presents depletion and (air, water and soils) show degradation; c) an analysis of selected branches comparing the CDDE with the environmental protection expenses show that the branches that pollutes more are: transportation and manufacturing, however, these branches do not replace its environmental costs.
