HERNANDEZ REYNA, Miriam. Historiography of the “indigenous memory” in Mexico. Reflections on a local form of the world memory paradigm. Let. hist. [online]. 2015, n.12, pp.91-114. ISSN 2448-8372.  https://doi.org/10.31836/lh.12.1777.

The objective of this essay is to make a historiographic analysis of the ways in which the indigenous past in Mexico has been reshaped from the category of memory in the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st. It will examine historic mutations of the indigenous identity which have given place to the belief that the indigenous peoples are the authentic heirs of an ancestral past safeguarded in the memory of the group. Subsequently, we will see how, starting from this idea social defense or arguments, have been derived for the creation of policies with “cultural relevance”. Finally, we suggest that this phenomenon corresponds to a process of globalization of the category of memory which activates new historicities.
