The study aimed to analyze the changes in reading operated by the mediation of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and the skills most demanded by the labor market, related to reading comprehension processes. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the impetus of current technological development, the non-face-to-face modality was assumed globally and the virtual class was positioned as the predominant alternative in higher education. Hence, the educational trend is towards digitization and technological careers.
In this article, a mixed methodology was assumed: on the one hand, qualitative, based on the analysis of research articles registered in Scielo and in reports from the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (Unesco). ), the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and others, between 2018 and 2021. And, on the other hand, quantitative, through a survey of 132 university students. It is concluded that reading through ICT presents greater diversity, breadth of means and complexity due to technological intervention, as well as a globalizing posture, although it is not incompatible with that carried out in the printed text, given that they are different experiences. Reading comprehension with ICT is similar to reading in printed media in some studies, since their differences are not significant, although the use of ICT does promote motivation in students.
