MIRANDA VIDEGARAY, Carlos. It is the disease of old people. Covid-19, old age and discrimination. Cuicuilco. Rev. cienc. antropol. [online]. 2021, vol.28, n.81, pp.49-73.  Epub 04-Abr-2022. ISSN 2448-8488.

In this paper, an analysis is presented regarding the implications that Covid-19 has had for senior citizens and of the prevention measures taken to avoid its spread and further contagion. The pedagogy concept of old age is proposed as a legitimizing narrative that this economic system uses and that is embodied in the structural violence suffered by senior citizens. It underscores the absence of anthropology in the study of aging and old age, pointing out the resulting gaps that this entails regarding the understanding of the social, cultural and symbolic effects that aging represents. It also highlights how the measures taken againstCovidhave resulted in a high mortality rate among this sector of the population, thereby promoting significant setbacks in their rights through ageist practices legitimized by the said pedagogy of old age. Furthermore, it indicates how old age has become precarious in Mexico, thus placing the elderly as the most vulnerable sector when faced with this pandemic.

Palavras-chave : Covid; pedagogy of old age; precariousness; old age.
