HARO-HARO, Benjamin; ZAMORA-AGUIRRE, Salvador Aurelio  e  ALMONTE DE LEON, Hector. Control de nausea y vómito postoperatorio en pacientes con colecistectomía laparoscópica. Anest. Méx. [online]. 2016, vol.28, n.3, pp.38-46. ISSN 2448-8771.

Nausea and vomiting is a common problem in patients undergoing anesthesia and surgery. It is a parameter of discomfort and dissatisfaction for the patient. The presence of nausea and vomiting originates a cost for patients and hospitals. The hospitals are trying to diminish costs every day. There are some patients and surgeries that are more susceptible to producing the symptoms.

Material and method.

This clinical research was performed at a general hospital. The study included 60 adult patients scheduled for laparoscopic cholecystectomy surgeries. We designed one trial clinical randomized, to assess the prevention of nausea and vomiting. These patients were randomly assigned intro two groups each comprising 30 patients. The patients in group A received dexamethasone, group B patients were administered the mixed dexamethasone/ ondansetron. We applicated the Apfel ́s model. We evaluated the number of patients suffering from nausea and vomiting in different times and the necessity to use additional antiemetics.

Results.

The higher incidence of events of nausea and vomiting, ocurred in the dexamethasone group. (36 vs. 16). There was increased risk of nausea and vomiting in the dexamethasone group (41.6% vs 33.3%). The women were the most affected by nausea and vomiting, especially the youngest.

Conclusion.

The combination of two drugs with different mechanism of action, offers better alternatives especially in patients with several risk factors, such as the young women of laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
