At the Universidad de Costa Rica, we care about the ways our projects impact the communities we touch, but not the ones that concern our students in charge of developing them. Our main goal is to highlight how the experience of the University Community Work TCU-452 impacted the personal, academic, and professional lives of our students participating from 2019 to 2022. To do so, we expose the work methodology and we narrate some of the students’ experiences by gathering information through questionnaires answered by 42 people, where we asked about their attitude towards the 300 hours of social work as a requirement to get their degrees; in which activities and how often they participated, which one they enjoyed the most, which one was the biggest challenge and if, after all, they considered it was important to do it; to finally acknowledge their perceptions of how the whole experience impacted their lives. We used the qualitative methodological approach and the conceptual-inductive model or system to understand, in the experiences of our students, their social reality. The result is extremely positive, and the impact of the TCU is significant.
