PEREZ CALATAYUD, Ángel Augusto et al. Toxic megacolon in pregnancy due to cytomegalovirus: a case report and literature review. Med. crít. (Col. Mex. Med. Crít.) [online]. 2016, vol.30, n.2, pp.137-142.  Epub 30-Ago-2021. ISSN 2448-8909.

The term «toxic megacolon» describes a rare but potentially fatal complication cause by inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), or secondary to complication of infectious diseases. The epidemiology has changed in these areas. Its prevalence in the obstetric patient is extremely rare and there are only eight cases reported in the medical literature. The recommendation for its management is given only based on the therapy used in the general population and even in this group there is no enough evidence to support treatment. The purpose of this event is to report a case of toxic megacolon in an obstetric patient and to review the literature on current concepts and management.

Palavras-chave : Toxic megacolon; pregnancy.
