Percutaneous tracheostomy is a generally safe procedure, although not without risk of complications, it is considered the procedure of choice in critically ill patients with prolonged mechanical ventilation. We present the case of a woman with acute respiratory failure syndrome secondary to COVID-19 pneumonia who required percutaneous tracheostomy due to prolonged ventilation. The patient developed significant complications that required surgical intervention.
