HINOJOSA-CORDOVA, Lucila. New habits, practices, modes of appropriation and consumption rituals of Mexican films in times of pandemic: a case study in Monterrey, Nuevo León. Rev. panam. comun. [online]. 2022, vol.4, n.1, pp.21-31.  Epub 27-Jun-2022. ISSN 2683-2208.  https://doi.org/10.21555/rpc.v4i1.2547.

The general objective of this research was to identify and analyze the habits, practices, modes of appropriation and rituals of consumption of Mexican films of the inhabitants of the metropolitan area of Monterrey who remained imprisoned by the COVID-19 pandemic, in a context of massive closure of movie theaters given the restrictions caused by the pandemic and, paradoxically, in the face of a growing new golden age for Mexican cinema. This research was conducted with a qualitative approach; is an exploratory study in which the technique of in-depth interviewing was used. The sample was 43 voluntary subjects, adults confined at home, of both sexes and in an age range of between 41 and 86 years. The results show that the change was more significant among older adults, who mentioned that for them going to movie theaters meant a lot, since, along with casino attendance, they were their only distractions before the pandemic, although they also mentioned that they were getting used to watching movies on television via streaming platforms. particularly on Netflix, although they feel they don't master technology for their enjoyment. As for the consumption of Mexican films, older adults do not like new films very much, they still prefer those of the Golden Age of the last century and, although they mentioned that in those they have seen recently they observe that in a certain way they represent the reality of our country, they said that due to their theme they consider they are aimed at a younger audience.
