CARRILLO CAL Y MAYOR, Juan Carlos. Representations of filmic violence from the female gaze. Three post-pandemic Mexican films: Sin señas particulares (Fernanda Valadez, 2020), Noche de fuego (Tatiana Huezo, 2021), La civil (Teodora Mihai, 2021). Rev. panam. comun. [online]. 2022, vol.4, n.1, pp.107-118. Epub 27-Jun-2022. ISSN 2683-2208. https://doi.org/10.21555/rpc.v4i1.2556.
Despite the complications that the COVID-19 pandemic implied for the global film industry, Mexican cinema has continued with a relevant level of production, as well as some of its own evolutions. The increasing participation of women in the main roles, such as direction, stands out. On the other hand, a present thematic line is that of cinema about the harsh reality of the disappeared in Mexico due to drug cartels. This paper analyzes three Mexican films on this subject, directed and starring women and released or produced once the pandemic had begun, with the aim of studying the representation of violence in contemporary Mexican cinema made by women. It is shown that filmic violence is not used as a spectacle but as a way of denouncing, for which it does not need to be explicit.
