NIETO CAMACHO, Ana Lilia. La imposible negación: la relación entre poderes en Durango en los años de la posguerra. Estud. hist. mod. contemp. Mex [online]. 2009, n.38, pp.111-136. ISSN 0185-2620.

During the 19th century, the northern territories of Mexico suffered constant invasions from nomadic Indians, which, according to all the news that reached Mexico City, left "razed villages, lost cattle and murdered residents" in their wake. In Durango, the "war" against these indomitable Indians was a fundamental part of the inhabitants' daily lives and one of the main obligations of local government. This study seeks to analyze the importance of defense in the policy of Durango -a state where defense was said to be "everything"- as well as the existing limitations on achieving an effective defense: the struggle for power between the executive and legislative branch and the impossibility of reconciling local political and economic interest around a common problem.

Palavras-chave : Durango; defense; nomadic Indians; conflict between the executive and legislative branches.
