MARTINEZ-CARMONA, Gabriel. Private Interest versus Public Interest in the Mexican Foreign Debt Service, 1842-1845. Am. Lat. Hist. Econ [online]. 2023, vol.30, n.1, e1327. Epub 03-Fev-2023. ISSN 2007-3496. https://doi.org/10.18232/20073496.1327.
The article analyzes the actions of the financial agent of Mexico in London, F. de Lizardi y Co., in relation to the payment of the external debt service. In the proposed period, there was a conflictive relationship between him and the plenipotentiary minister of Mexico in the same city, due to the series of actions of the agent, which privileged his particular interest instead of the republic. Through the study of official documentation, correspondence between the two actors and with the bondholders’ committee, as well as newspaper notes, the aim is to better understand the way of confrontation between private and public interests in the incipient Mexican financial diplomacy.
