In this text, we discuss Alain Badiou’s main developments on the contributions of mathematics to a materialistic ontology of the multiple, from a Platonic perspective, through which he tries to face the challenges implied in Jacques Lacan's antiphilosophy. Subsequently, based on Slavoj Žižek's criticism of Badiou’s notions of presentation and representation, we judge the limits and possibilities of Badiou’s ontological proposal.
