HERNANDEZ CUEVAS, Luis Armando. Myth, Democracy and Stasis. The Ruse of Sovereignty. Rev. filos. Univ. Iberoam. [online]. 2022, vol.54, n.153, pp.210-246. Epub 17-Maio-2024. ISSN 2954-4602. https://doi.org/10.48102/rdf.v54i153.145.
Enclosing the affiliation among myth and sovereignty as a problem, the paper aims to: a) enquire the way in which these notions are associated in the constitution of an idea of democracy driven by a teleological principle and; b) disclose how such an idea veil the very constitution of politics; understood as στάσις (civil war). Consequently, in order to arrest the above, the paper brings to the present two problems from the past: 1) the problem of the exhaustion of the myth suggested by Gorgias and the rhetoric movement in the 5th century B.C., and; 2) the problem of the veiling of the στάσις studied by Nicole Loraux, Michel Foucault and Dimitris Vardoulakis. All this to take a stand against contemporary processes in which inhospitality, xenophobia and the shadows of hate crimes are nurtured under the halo of a democracy trapped by a sovereign myth.
