AGUILAR OCHOA, Arturo. La influencia de los artistas viajeros en la litografía mexicana (1837-1849). An. Inst. Investig. Estét [online]. 2000, vol.22, n.76, pp.133-141. ISSN 0185-1276.

On the basis of information gathered from hemerographic sources, Arturo Aguilar traces the influence and impact of the traveling artists on Mexican lithography during the first half of the 19th century. Thanks to images created by Baron von Humboldt, Mrs. Ward, Waldeck, Nebel and Catherwood, which were published in Mexico throughout this period, Mexicans received an opportunity to appreciate diverse architectural beauties, popular types, cities and landscapes. The final result of this approximation was a blend of both rejection and acceptance infused by an infinity of circumstances and interests that included the growing Mexican nationalism of the era. Nonetheless, in all such cases, this contact led to repercussions that affected the development of lithography which, at the time, was barely emerging.
