DALLAL, Alberto. The Eyes of the Stage: Scenographers of Mexican Dance. An. Inst. Investig. Estét [online]. 2010, vol.32, n.96, pp.55-76. ISSN 0185-1276.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iie.18703062e.2010.96.2307.

This essay describes the process of professionalization in Mexican stage design following the setting up of Vasconcelos' cultural program and the effects of the process on the participation of Mexican painters in the Mexican Modern Dance Movement. It stresses the creativity of painters like Orozco and Soriano, among others, prior to the founding of the degree in stage production by Julio Prieto. The passage from modern dance to contemporary dance incorporated professional scenographers whose work in collaboration with choreographers established a specific type of creativity, linked to advances in the work of stage design in the theatrical arts as a whole. The essay describes some basic conceptual aspects of stage production and refers to concrete examples of connections between the stage designer and the peculiarities of choreographic expression.
