The following article explores some examples of artistic protest against enforced disappearances in Mexico. The study’s main objective was to identify some strategies and tools that art can provide to amplify the effect of activism by victims’ mothers. The analysis derives from the experiences shared by protesting mothers during the Seminar on Enforced Disappearances in Mexico and Latin America organized by UAM Cuajimalpa. Hence, it includes a qualitative analysis of what was expressed by the participants. Likewise, some aesthetic proposals were analyzed using concepts such as “artivism,” a new genre of public art seeking to understand contemporary cultural manifestations that are a form of social and political demonstration. Finally, considering the work of Mónica Mayer and the project Bordando por la paz as examples of this new form of political art, we identified qualities that make them appropriate and efficient protest forms.
