During the last years there has been recognition of microfinance as a tool for more effective policies for fighting poverty. There is anecdotal evidence to such recognition, but there are few works based on a solid methodology suggesting or proving such relation. This paper makes a contribution to the field. It aims to uncover if those households with microfinance access hold more non-financial assets, which are considered as a proxy for welfare and of their capacity to improve their socioeconomic conditions. We find that those families with access to loans hold more assets. Further, our results suggest that the source of financing (individuals or institutions) affect the size of the impact.
