Higher education in Venezuela began to expand and diversify in 1958. One effect of this growth was the professionalization of academics. Partly as a result of the introduction of evaluation and financial incentive policies, strategies for the production and dissemination of knowledge, such as the participation in scientific associations and academic events, became widespread. This article explains the uneven use of these strategies in different academic disciplines, based on a sample of 588 university professors. The general conclusion underlines how these strategies are not used very much in several fields.
