DURAND PONTE, Víctor Manuel  e  DURAND SMITH, Leticia. Values and Attitudes Concerning Environmental Pollution in Mexico: Reflections on Post-Materialism. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2004, vol.66, n.3, pp.511-535. ISSN 2594-0651.

This study analyzes the relation between values and attitudes concerning environmental pollution in Mexico and the change in values associated with the shift from materialism to post-materialism. The data indicate that the link is most evident among the wealthier sectors. Environmental values do, however, exist in less privileged groups, indicating that the environmental imperative is also emerging as a new concern associated with material shortages. This also qualifies Ronald Ingleharth's classic hypothesis.

Palavras-chave : environmentalism; post-materialism; value systems; environmental pollution.
