The purpose of this paper is to provide reconstruction of the sociological notion of social convention. The article begins with the classic notion of convention put forward by Max Weber explains his normative nature, as a principle of action accepted by a collectivity. This principle is based on mechanisms of social approval and disapproval that define actions as being appropriate or inappropriate, depending on the prescribed principle. Finally, the paper stresses the analytical difference between social conventions and moral standards.
