HABER, Paul. The Migration of the Popular Urban Movement to Party Policy in Contemporary Mexico. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2009, vol.71, n.2, pp.213-245. ISSN 2594-0651.

The Mexican Popular Urban Movement emerged in the 1970s. By the end of that decade, it had become a significant public player, reaching its peak in the late 1980s. There-after, it rapidly declined as a process of liberalization advanced in the 1990s and political parties progressively replaced social movements as the preferred organizational form of the left in Mexico. This article focuses on the way the movement's leaders handled the transition.

Palavras-chave : urban popular movement; political parties; democratic transition; leadership; structure of political opportunities; political strategy.
