The CALPUFF dispersion model was used to simulate the spatial distribution of the SO₂ emitted by Petróleos Mexicanos' (PEMEX) gas-processing complexes in Cactus, NW Chiapas, Nuevo PEMEX and Ciudad PEMEX, in central Tabasco, during 2003. It was found that the zone with the highest concentrations of SO₂ is located SW from the PEMEX facilities. The zone, where the World Health Organization's norm for SO₂ is surpassed (20 µg/m³), includes the city of Reforma, Chiapas and Ciudad PEMEX, Tabasco.
