FIGUEROA-HUENCHO, Verónica de Lourdes; PLISCOFF-VARAS, Cristian Humberto  e  ARAYA-ORELLANA, Juan Pablo. Challenges in the formative process of public managers in 21st Century. Convergencia [online]. 2014, vol.21, n.64, pp.207-234. ISSN 2448-5799.

Public administration currently undergoes a deep transformation that imposes new challenges to public managers; particularly to the education they receive. Universities have to reflect on the needs rendered from the environment and to follow the complex processes of transformation and modernization in the public management realm. For Chilean case, the modernizing agenda of previous governments has become an important institutional catalyst for that. This paper analyzes the case of the School of Government and Public Management of the University of Chile using one three-dimension and other seven-subdimension models. Evidence shows a group of traits and emphasis that have to be considered in designing a curriculum to form public managers suitable for modernization of public management. This information is gathered from the application and analysis of four focus groups with key actors along with the analysis of official documents. This paper identifies, describes and explains the variables to be considered in a formative process aimed at public managers.
