MURILLO TORRECILLA, F. Javier e ROMAN CARRASO, Marcela. Elementary School Teachers in Latin America with More Than One Job: Situation and Implications. RMIE [online]. 2013, vol.18, n.58, pp.893-924. ISSN 1405-6666.
This article presents a study that characterizes and analyzes the phenomenon of elementary school teachers in Latin America who have two jobs. The basis of the study is the magnitude, consequences, and implications for developing teaching activities. The study uses the database of the Second Regional Comparative and Explanatory Study of the UNESCO, with information that represents more than eight thousand teachers in the third and sixth grades in approximately three thousand schools in sixteen Latin American countries. The research results indicate that one out of every three teachers has a second paid job, most often a teaching job in another school. Important differences are seen between teachers with one and two jobs in terms of the time they dedicate to class preparation, teamwork, and the attention they give students outside of the classroom.
