IGLESIAS BERZAL, Montserrat. Simón Bolívar: la oportunidad de Hispanoamérica en El general en su laberinto. Latinoamérica [online]. 2005, n.41, pp.11-41. ISSN 2448-6914.

This article explores The General in His Labyrinth, by Gabriel García Márquez, a key work to understand the ideological questions to which the Colombian writer gave special attention during the late eighties. This paper is analyzed through narratological criteria, and the author comes to the conclusion that the text explains Independence as the first unsuccessful attempt to unify all Latin America into one single nation. The Simón Bolívar character in the novel depends on this main idea, and the author states that García Máquez wants to create a myth to update the continuing unifying efforts.

Palavras-chave : Gabriel García Márquez; The General in His Labyrinth; Simón Bolívar; Latin America unity.
