MORANA, Mabel. El Ojo que Llora: bio-politics, memory knots and public art in today's Peru. Latinoamérica [online]. 2012, n.54, pp.183-216. ISSN 2448-6914.

The article analyzes the debates surrounding the construction and materialization of collective memory in Peru in connection with the civil war in which "Sendero Luminoso" was confronted by state forces, leaving a high death toll in the Andean region. The public monument El Ojo que Llora, erected to commemorate those killed in such clashes, is studied in its aesthetic, ethical and ideological aspects through the debates it generated and as an example of representational problems posed by the materialization of a recent political conflict of controversial nature, both in its strategies and in their interpretation.

Palavras-chave : Collective memory; Peru; Sendero Luminoso; Public art; violence.
