This paper examines Ulises criollo (1935), the autobiography of the Mexican writer José Vasconcelos, as one of the more suitable texts in order to understand the intellectual formation in Latin America during the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. it focuses on the discussion about the complex cultural relationship between Mexico and the United States, discussion that Vasconcelos assumed from his autobiographical approaches.
