Truth and law share an intimate interconnection, especially in situations where conflicts are settled through judicial processes. When resolving juridical controversies, the attending judges operate on the basis of their knowledge of the truth of the propositions presented in relation to the events in question, and on their dogmatic knowledge of the law. In these cases, they confront a whole series of problems derived from (1) the established legal framework; and, (2) the impossibility of reconstructing the events at the center of the controversy exactly as they occurred in the past. The control they manage to exercise over these two obstacles will be determinant in ensuring that the final judicial decisions achieve the high standards of epistemological and juridical quality required for them to have positive repercussions in terms of fomenting the common good.
