CORDERO, Liliana. Confluences and Divergences in Early 21st Century North America: An Analysis from the Political Denunciation Documentary. Rev. mex. cienc. polít. soc [online]. 2021, vol.66, n.243, pp.369-396. Epub 31-Jan-2022. ISSN 0185-1918. https://doi.org/10.22201/fcpys.2448492xe.2021.243.71252.
Using a trace analysis methodology and a comparative approach, the objective is to analyze three political complaint documentaries made in North America between 2003 and 2011, a period characterized by regional integration, due to policies of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the implementation of national and border security policies. This article argues that documentaries, whose main purpose is to inform in order to bring about a change, reflect a different perception of the region, to the extent that there is a criticism of the policies implemented and their main problems. Dynamics and events that cross the territory, the way countries are perceived, and the reactions of social resistance are reviewed. It is concluded that there is regional affinity in the way of conceiving the implementation of economic policies and their effects, despite the asymmetries between Canada and United States and Mexico. The text allows for reflecting on North America from political minorities and opposing angles to neoliberalism.
