TERAN FUENTES, Mariana. For a kiss to Santa Anna. The separation of Aguascalientes from the state of Zacatecas, 1835-1846. Estud. hist. mod. contemp. Mex [online]. 2018, n.56, pp.77-111.  Epub 09-Mar-2020. ISSN 0185-2620.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iih.24485004e.2018.56.67483.

The purpose of this article is to explain the role played by the Aguascalientes Local Government to achieve the emancipation from the state of Zacatecas in 1835. In that year the General Congress recognized the party as a territory of the federation and later on as one of the departments that made up the central republic. This case illustrates the various economic, social and cultural links between Aguascalientes city and Zacatecas city; those connections made the relationship between those two cities tense because both cities were competitive. A fair amount of Aguascalientes Local Government’s requests were focused on its desire to self-govern and to get rid of any dependency with Zacatecas. Once considered a department, one of its main demands was the defense of the central republic and then its demand to restore the Constitution of 1824. At this point, the article points out the role played by the Aguascalientes departmental board, institution unattended by political historiography.
