RODRIGUES, Fernando da Silva e SILVA, Érica Sarmiento da. The Chaco War Seen through the Eyes of the Brazilian Military (1932-1935). Secuencia [online]. 2019, n.103, e1549. Epub 01-Jan-2019. ISSN 2395-8464. https://doi.org/10.18234/secuencia.v0i103.1549.
This study analyzed part of the documentation produced by the Brazilian Army, showing the Institutional position on the Bolivian-Paraguayan war in the Boreal Chaco, a conflict that took place between 1932 and 1935, in the central borders of South America. It used these documents to identify historical and political constructions about border tensions in the 1930s. The article underlines the fact that, in addition to the conflict between Bolivia and Paraguay, political tensions between Brazil and Argentina arose due to the traditional rivalry and fight for control of regional power. The research, based on the theoretical arguments established by the geopolitics of Mário Travassos, also showed that the Brazilian military of the time were primarily responsible for the intervention of the North and the Central-West region of Brazil, considering the territorial occupation and control of the terrestrial limits, to maintain national sovereignty for this purpose.
