ENTIO, Lisandro J. e MUJICA, María de la M.. Natural reseeding in Lotus tenuis established by different sowing systems. Agrociencia [online]. 2011, vol.45, n.4, pp.431-441. ISSN 2521-9766.
The incorporation of Lotus tenuis would increase the productivity of grasslands in a sustainable way based on its persistence, for which natural reseeding of L. tenuis is important. The objective of this study was to evaluate the potential of natural reseeding in a pasture of L. tenuis cv. Aguapé in three sowing systems. The trial was implanted on April 19, 2006 in La Chacra Experimental de Chascomus, Province of Buenos Aires (35° 34' S; 58° 30' W) in a 14.6 ha lot. Treatments were three sowing systems: by hand (V), intercropping (I) and direct (D). The experimental design was a randomized complete block and the experimental unit was a 1.92 X150 m plot. The variables were: number of seedlings, production and quality of seed and potential reseeding by estimating emergence of new seedlings. A variance analysis was carried out and means were compared with the Tukey test. Direct seeding was higher (p<0.01) than the other two systems in plant growth, seed production and emergence of new seedlings, but there was no difference (p>0.05) in seed quality. Air weight per plant or per unit area influenced (p<0.05) linearly and positively on the physiologically viable seed production. Therefore, the best response in natural reseeding with direct sowing was associated with having favored a greater air weight. Regardless of the sowing system L. tenuis cv. Aguapé showed a high potential for natural reseeding. The conclusion was that the expression of the natural reseeding potential depends on the sowing system and that direct sowing, when favoring a higher seed yield, presents a higher potential for natural reseeding than the intercropping and hand sowing.
