The Carnival celebration in San Andrés Mixtla, Zongolica Sierra’s a nahua community in the state of Veracruz, is presented as a forum for analysis of the new meanings of ritual ceremonies in indigenous communities on 21 century. This ceremony represents the elements of the Sierra nahua cosmovision that, while recreating own characteristics, also link with the Mesoamerican matriz. The ceremony, in addition to being a platform for the mountain inhabitants identity, is presented as a space for political negotiation. In this political platform, identity elements also have the role of legitimate the groups in power and start building bridges between traditional forms of sociopolitical organization and the new secular offices.
