LOPEZ VERA, Elvia Estefanía. La sombra del Caudillo: Una reflexión sobre la tiranía. Revista Col. San Luis [online]. 2014, vol.4, n.8, pp.218-241. ISSN 2007-8846.

Within the Hispanoamerican tradition of the dictator´s novel, critics have incorporated The Shadow of the Caudillo (1929), by Martín Luis Guzmán, as a reflection upon the postrevolutionary leadership. This work looks to specify, that in such work antagonism does not concentrate only in the tyrant character but how he creates a misfortunate atmosphere that expands like a shadow, poetic image that is reinforced by textual elements from the same lexical field. This allows to recognize the ambiguous configuration of the tyrant-character that differs from the problem of evil in the battle for power, whose presence unlocks the conflict in the plot, even though paradoxically, his absence makes him all-powerful in the shadows of the Mexican political system. Also, the picture of the Caudillo in Guzman´s novel, is in a dialogue with a factual history that makes it possible for the identity of the characters within the context of the Mexican Revolution.
