Guillén Romo reviews ultra fixed monetary arrangements -currency board, dollarization and monetary integration- as potential current exchange regimes for Latin American economies. None of these arrangements, says the author, is the best alternative for all countries at all times. Its application must take into consideration policy issues and power correlation between winners and losers in the face of institutional change entailed by the new current exchange regime.
