Objective: To study the correspondence between productive specialization, sectoral interdependence, and Sonora economy growth between 2003 and 2019. Methodology: Measures of contribution to growth, productive specialization and sectoral production multipliers are used to contrast the reinterpretation of the first Kaldor law proposed by Pacheco-López in 2014. Results: The exports manufacturing sector is key to because it makes an important contribution to Sonora’s economic growth. The primary sector and mining also contribute, due they have productive specialization and intersectoral influence. Value: This study provides information to design a productive development policy to consolidates the productive chains led by the traditional sectors and take advantage of the export branches opportunity. Limitations: The trade effects with other country regions are not registered. Conclusion: The Sonora’s economy pillars are found in the primary and the extractive activities, as well as in the export-manufacturing sectors.
