BERISTAIN-HERNANDEZ, José L.; TORRES-OLALDE, Mario E.; ROJANO-RODRIGUEZ, Martín  e  DIAZ-BAEZ, Dalilia. Images on endoscopic, radiological, and histological findings in ischemic colitis: case report. Introduction:

Ischaemic colitis (IC) is the most common form of intestinal ischaemia, of which 90% of cases are in patients over 60 years of age, and occurs when the colon is temporarily deprived of vascular flow, which prevents the maintenance of cellular metabolic function, causing an ischaemic lesion in the wall of the large intestine, especially the mucosa. The most affected regions are those with the highest water-shed areas, damaging the ascending colon, sigmoid colon and splenic flexure. The clinical presentation varies from mild forms that resemble the course of infectious gastroenteritis to severe forms with transmural necrosis and peritonitis. The most typical IC case is an elderly patient with vascular risk factors (usually hypertensive) presenting with abdominal pain, diarrhoea and rectal bleeding.

Objective:

To present a case of ulcerated IC located in the descending, sigmoid and transverse colon.
