TOVAR MOTA, Valentina. Not Uncomfortable Cultural Legacies: Hispanophilia and Nation in the Eyes of Durango Intellectuals at the Dawn of the Twentieth Century. Hist. mex. [online]. 2024, vol.73, n.3, pp.1241-1283.  Epub 22-Jan-2024. ISSN 2448-6531.  https://doi.org/10.24201/hm.v73i3.4701.

This article incorporates reflections on Mexican nationalist ideas at the dawn of the twentieth century from the perspective of the intellectuals of Durango. In their columns in the local press, two little-studied journalists used a cultural and artistic expression-Zarzuela theater-as an instrument for communicating a set of ideas and values regarding regional identity, emphasizing a Hispanophilia inherited from the Conquest and the colonial era. This allowed for an approach to the definition of the nation and local identitarian processes that took place in the periphery of central-northern Mexico from an uncommon perspective, one with additional nuances of meaning.
