We gladly present to you the volume 46 of Scientia Fungorum corresponding to December 2017. This volume is made up of 6 original papers and 3 reviews. It is very important to note that on this issue Scientia Fungorum publishes works from 4 continents: America, Europe, Asia and Africa, which reveals the firm intention of internationalize our journal.
As previously reported, the Sociedad Mexicana de Micología (Mexican Society of Mycology) has been renewed, giving birth to the Asociación Mexicana para el Estudio de los Hongos (Mexican Association for the Study of Mushrooms) (AMEH). As a logical consequence, this situation will affect the publication of the journal, both in legal terms, as well as the approach and perspectives proposed for this new association.
In this sense and taking advantage of the conjuncture that renovation of the AMEH means, we have worked in the redefinition of the focus and scope of the journal, giving it a much more universal perspective. To meet these challenges, CONACyT approved a short-term project that aims to take advantage of the opportunity given by the name change, to improve the position of Scientia Fungorum in international databases. The objectives of the project are:
To establish a transition plan from the Revista Mexicana de Micología (RMM) to the journal Scientia Fungorum, giving continuity to the achievements and prestige of the RMM.
To make adjustments to the editorial policy of the journal, in areas such as: focus and scope of the journal, policy of the different sections, peer review process, open access policies, rights of readers and authors and policies of postulation.
To improve the visibility of the journal through the marking of metadata XML-JATS under Scielo standard, for the fascicles of the issues published in 2017.
To start up the Scientia Fungorum website, which will allow the use of OJS electronic manager throughout the editorial process.
Although relatively little time has elapsed since the volume 45 of Scientia Fungorum was published, the advances have been relevant and the first articles published in Scientia Fungorum can already be found easily in the network.
For the next year 2018 we hope that all the papers will be sent to our magazine through the website, which will significantly shorten the peer-review times and therefore the acceptance and publication of the manuscripts. In the same way we hope to finalize the procedure for the definitive obtaining of the ISSN for Scientia Fungorum, as well as to establish agreements with new sponsors that support our publication.
Undoubtedly next year will be very important in the consolidation of Scientia Fungorum as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of our magazine. We have come a long way since the edition of the Boletín Informativo de la Sociedad Mexicana de Micología, later transformed into Revista Mexicana de Micología and currently renamed as Scientia Fungorum.
We thank the Board of the AMEH, led by Dr. Roberto Garibay Orijel, for the unconditional support and the effort they make to maintain the dynamics of Scientia Fungorum, as well as CONACYT for the funding granted.
