On February 7-8th, 2014, the symposium "50±1σ años de Geocronología en México" was held at the Instituto de Geofísica, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Mexico City. It was organized by the staff of the Laboratorio Universitario de Geoquímica Isotópica (LUGIS). Twenty-four talks and eight poster contributions provided an historical overview of geochronological investigations in Mexico as well as a state of the art review.
Some contributions to this symposium were transformed to scientific publications. The first two papers are now available in this volume of the Revista Mexicana de Ciencias Geológicas. Topics include new findings on granulite rocks from Huiznopala constraining an Early Mesoproterozoic age for the Oaxaquia basement with U-Pb and Lu-Hf zircon data (Weber and Schulze). The article by Abdullin et al. describes the approach to use the LA-ICP-MS technique for Fission Track dating, in this case applied to the Cerro de Mercado (Durango) fluorapatites.
Other seven papers are nearly finished and will be published in the first 2015 volumes.
