Resumen
FAVARI, Liliana et al. Hepatoprotective and antioxidant effects of Taraxacum officinale against carbon tetrachloride induced acute hepatic damage in the rat. Rev. mex. cienc. farm [online]. 2013, vol.44, n.4, pp.53-61. ISSN 1870-0195.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the hepatoprotective and antioxidant effects of Taraxacum officinale (100, 200 and 400 mg/kg) in the acute liver intoxication with carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) in rats that were protected with T. officinale and colchicine (positive control) orally for three days started three hours after the CCl4 administration. The aqueous extract of T. officinale decreased the elevated hepatic activities of alanine aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase and gamma glutamyltranspeptidase, serum bilirubin and lipid peroxidation and elevated catalase and glutathione peroxidasa. The extract presented high total phenolic compound content and moderate DPPH. scavenging activity. Taraxacum officinale possessed hepatoprotective and antioxidant effects that evidenced the traditional use of this plant.
