This paper attempts to analyze the role of a historical party (formerly structured) that forms part of a transitory and electoral alliance in office, occupying a subordinate place. For this we will study two Latin American political parties in crisis, through a multiple case study: Unión Cívica Radical of Argentina, member of the ruling coalition Cambiemos, and Chilean Christian Democracy, which broke with the at that time New Majority alliance.
