CASTRELO, Víctor. The Route of Argentine Polarization. Four Events of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner’s Governments (2007-2015). Rev. mex. cienc. polít. soc [online]. 2023, vol.68, n.249, pp.227-253. Epub 16-Ago-2024. ISSN 0185-1918. https://doi.org/10.22201/fcpys.2448492xe.2023.249.79417.
This paper seeks to account for the process of political and social polarization that occurred in Argentina during the two governments of Cristina Kirchner (2007-2011/2011-2015), focusing on the analysis of four key events: 1) the conflict with the countryside, 2) the enactment of the Audiovisual Communication Services Law, 3) the Bicentennial celebrations, and 4) the 2015 elections. Our objective is to explain which were the actors who played a prominent role in the development of each event, what position the government held, the tone and bias of the coverage by the opposing press, what were the consequences for each agent involved, and how each of these facts was adding demands, topics and signifiers that contributed to bring together an social mass opposed to the official policies. In order to address these social events we start from the category of political event, that is, the political action in which disputes over the fixation of meanings or, on the contrary, the attempt to subvert those that are institutionalized are evidenced.
