The latest study programs for basic education in Mexico propose addressing environmental education (EE) in an interdisciplinary or “transversal” way. Despite this, little is known about the pedagogical and didactic notions followed by teachers regarding this subject. The main goal of this research is to present the interdisciplinary notions about EE of 11 elementary school teachers from six different schools in Monterrey (Nuevo León, Mexico). In order to do this, we used a multiple case study, focused on three sets of semistructured interviews for each teacher. A qualitative theme-based content analysis was conducted to obtain an interpretive approach to the data. All teachers enunciating some interdisciplinary notions regarding EE; however, their notions reflect a lack of practical experience in interdisciplinary teaching and learning, and of clear and robust theoretical support for an adequate development in class.
